¡Feliz Día de los Muertos!

November 1st, 2009 by maryjojo | 4 Comments | Filed in art journal, crafts, project

Wow it’s already November!  How time flies when you don’t notice.

¡Feliz Día de los Muertos!November 1st means Day of the Dead!  Woo hoo!  Not only do you get a day to dress up in a cool costume but the next day has more celebrations!  I dig the decorations for today’s holiday.  I finally got to my DOTD skull today.  Quite fun and relaxing to doodle with bright colors on a pure white skull.  It’s even better that I finally had energy to do something.

Last week was c¡Feliz Día de los Muertos!razy.  Being sick for practically the whole week but not having the same symptoms as Jeff made it difficult to realize that I was sick.   Jeff felt ill on Monday and I think I finally gave in on Wednesday.  I’m not sure what type of flu it was but it sucked the energy right out of doing anything except for sleep, eat, and drink.  I’m glad that it’s finally gone and definitely happy it was before we go to San Diego in a few weeks.

San Diego will be interesting as I think we’re going to Disneyland with young niece and nephew.  I’m unsure if it really has been settled that we’ll be going to Mickey’s house but I know we’ll be going to a concert for Edgar Winter.   That’ll be a hoot!!  It’ll be good to take some time off.

I’ve also signed up for a few online art things.   One is for the whole month of November.   Everyday, I will be doing something artsy.  It’s called Art Every Day Month by Leah [ Creative Everday].  I stumbled upon it today and thought it would be a great kick-off to my other art thing: { 12.31 } by Dawn DeVries Sokol [ D'Blogala ].  It’s all about documenting the holidays through creating your own journal and something other things that I haven’t heard yet.  The project starts on November 6th and goes to the end of December.  I’m excited.

So today’s skull design is brought to you by my first day of ADEM.  Enjoy.

Another weekend goes by…

September 14th, 2008 by maryjojo | No Comments | Filed in crafts, scrapbooking

and another week begins.   It’s amazing how time flies when you look backwards yet it takes forever when looking forward.  This weekend we did a good cleaning of the house.  I cleared out the kitchen of unnecessary items, got the emissions test done on the Civic, renewed tabs for our cars, laundry processed, and dishes done.  So you could say I did a lot this weekend.   Yet I never felt satistified.   Wierd.

I finally got my new easel up.  It looks so pretty and so inviting yet also intimidating.   Why so intimidating?  I have no degree in art and I haven’t really ever tried painting any kind of canvas except for once or twice when I was young.  I should just attempt like anything else I’d like to do.   It’s a matter of try try try. :)

At least I’ve gotten some movement on the wedding album front.  I’m so afraid of not doing justice to the album that it hasn’t gotten done since we were married 4+ years ago.  BUT! I am moving forward on it slowly.  I just got two more pages done.   Pages 7 and 8.  Woo hoo!   I haven’t gotten too elaborate with the design.  I enjoy the simplicity of just a few colors and stamps.   I also started to use some transparency for some wording to keep it even more simple.   I wonder how much time i should spend on these layouts and I want to see a finished project instead of enjoying the process.   Just as if the process is not enjoyable.   Guess I need to find the enjoyment out of it to get the results I’m looking for.

I finally got my acceptance letter for Artfest 2009.  Woo hoo!  I am so excited.   I am just thrilled.   I believe I got my first choices for classes.   Most are focused on art journalling which is great because of how new I am to expressing as well as being artistic in a non-musical way.   I AM SO EXCITED!   Woo hoo!  Party on!

Hopefully Jeff and I can foot it over to Port Townsend to see how Fort Worden is as well as the town.   I hear it is beautiful over there.   We’ll have to take a ferry across the bay and up towards the inner tip of the pennisula of Washington State.   I hear there are many many folks who come from all over to this event.   We’re talking European or Australian.   Just amazing.  I feel very fortunate that I got in and to the classes, which if memory serves me correctly, were my first choice.  The courses I got are:

  • Earth Friendly Paintmaking w/Karen Michel
  • Journey Into Journaling w/ Pam Garrison
  • Abstract Theory w/ Tiphoni

Great first year classes I think.  Then, to top it off, I’ll be bunking with someone at the fort in the dorm area.  Talk about being back at college.  It’ll be an experience that’s for sure.  I can’t wait.
